So, most of you know that I’m not working for Lisa Elia PR any more. That gig ended in March….laid off. So, during April I worked on things that I didn’t “have time” for while I was working, like put together our wedding scrapbook (it’s about finished if anyone wants to see it), and get ready for our trip to Hawaii.

The thing with not being really busy is that it’s easy to put things off because you have so much time to “do it later.” So, I did that for a week or so and thought I was going to go crazy being at home…not to say I won’t be able to stay home when we have children. Then I will have someone to occupy all of my time. But, finally the temp jobs started rolling in and I had work again!

My first job was working for the President of Lionsgate Entertainment. He was really nice and it was a slow day, so I didn’t have to answer too many phones. Then I worked for the advertising and promotion executive for CBS/Kingworld. This was even more laid back–I think I answered 4 phone calls all day. But, I did get through an entire issue of Vanity Fair magazine.

My favorite place so far has been CBS Television. It’s on the Paramount lot on Melrose and I’ve been in HR. I get to look through the resumes people submit online and pick which ones I think would be good for the jobs they have posted. Then I get to call and set up interviews, make binders for all the new people and have fun with the girls in the office. They’re all nice and fun. I worked there for a week and a half, and I’m going back starting Monday. They also sent me on a few job interviews around the lot. I’m not really too excited about most of them because even though I can be a secretary, it’s not that fun for me and isn’t exciting.

There was one job though–assisting the communications director for syndication– that would have been great. I met with her and she seemed to like me and the job sounded fun since I wouldn’t have to answer her phones and I could do things I know about. But…I haven’t heard. They were going to have me temp for her after her assistant left, but she said she didn’t need one which made Ramonda (the HR person who I’ve been working with) mad because they’d already talked about it. So, whatever. I’m not sure if I want a regular job if I get pregnant soon, then I’d have to quit in a year and I’d feel bad.

This week I’m at OK! Magazine, the entertainment/celeb magazine that came over from the UK. It’s been pretty boring. The most busy was Wed. when I had to transcribe an Angelina Jolie interview from a You Tube post. It took most of the day and some on Thursday. That’s why I have time to write today. Most of the people are nice though. People who have known me for a long time know I wanted to be an entertainment reporter and report on celebrity lives. I used to know everything about them…and I do still keep up, but recently I’ve begun to be annoyed with the celebrity driven culture. The stars are hounded constantly–and for doing what? Eating out at a restaurant or going to the grocery store? Like that should be news! Things are also so sensationalized. One cover here says “Kelly Ripa, How I’ll Save My Marriage” and then the story talks about how she and her husband don’t have much time to spend together because of busy schedules, but are committed to the marriage and cutting back on work–not that it’s falling apart and she has to save it.

Anyway, it’s been fun to get to see different businesses. I’ve never really worked in an office setting like any of these. The closest was at ABC news in Virginia. And, a little at Take Pride. For now, it’s decent money and keeping me busy. Not very engaging though. I think that’s why I like CBS HR, because I’m actually useful and working all the time instead of sitting around.

Well, that’s all my ramblings for now…

The weather here can’t make up its mind. One day it is completely gray in the morning, but burns off by the afternoon. The next day the sky looks like it’s about to rain any minute….and then the next two days are beautiful and sunny. And over the next ten days, more than half of them are supposed to be sunny. So much for our famous gloom! Yay! I think it was May that took over the gloom this year. It’s just starting to get sunny on a regular basis. At least we don’t have snow like Utah got last week–ouch!
Yes, my life is so exciting, I’m relegated to talking about the weather. A little sad isn’t it?
