Humans have a thing for mobility. It seems we hate to be tied down and are constantly looking for ways to get farther, faster. Think about it–we invented the wheel, bicycles, carriages, cars, airplanes and space shuttles just get get ourselves from point A to point B faster. Then there are “mobile” phones so we can connect with people and not be tied to a land line.

We’ve got our own mobility machine in our house, it’s called Britton. Last week he struggled to turn over to his tummy, now it takes about 2 seconds and he’ll actually roll from his stomach to his back too. He turns himself in circles or just rolls to get where he wants. We’ll leave him in one place and a few minutes later he’s feet in the other direction. Last night I found him on his stomach at the opposite end of the crib from where I’d left him–swaddled too! He’s a Houdini in that department. We still don’t kn ow how he does it.

He also sits up from a reclining position, so we can’t leave him sitting anywhere or he launches himself forward onto his face. No good. I’m thinking that by next week’s post he may be crawling. Though, I really hope not!

He’s getting better with his foods too. I tried a different spoon and he really likes it–I think. He still turns his head to the side, but sucks it in and gets mad when I take it away. It’s still pretty watery, but it’s getting thicker slowly.

This is him playing with his crib toy. He’s actually also trying to create a hole in his mattress with his strong kickers.

Sometimes he still stays on his back long enough to enjoy some toys.

And, I just love this one. He looks so grown up compared to his first couch sitting adventure at 3 weeks.

Our week? Well, we didn’t lead nearly as exciting of lives. I got to watch the developments unfold, and be a supervisor. I realized that Mark and I really can’t escape Mexican food. Case in point–2 weeks ago we went out at a Mexican restaurant. So, last Friday we decided Cheesecake Factory so we could get American food. What did we end up ordering? Nachos and a Southwestern salad. We’d had Fajitas the night before, and then last night (Tuesday) we had Southwestern Egg Rolls. I think it’s just really easy to make and has ingredients we like or something. I do try to vary things up, and only plan 1 Mexican meal a week, it just happens that way.

I read an article about the way to make excellent cookies, and then someone posted about trying the same experiment and it worked, so I’ve tried it as well. I’ll be taking some super duper chocolate chip cookies to the BBQ tonight. The trick–letting the dough refrigerate for 36 hours. I baked some at the 12, 24, and 36 hour marks and it’s true. I can tell the difference. The longer they’re in the fridge, the more the flavors have time to meld together and become richer and deeper. I dare you to try it!

  • He does look so much bigger. What cute pictures! And I LOVE Mexican food, so please feel free to share any recipes you have with us on the blog. I think I’m going to try out your salsa, chicken and rice one this weekend. Assuming I have the energy to cook … it’s been a long week :)
